Elizabeth Willsey [BS, MD (in progress)] is in her fourth year of medical school at UBC. She attended the University of Toronto for her undergraduate degree in Human Biology and Nutritional Sciences.
During her undergraduate degree, Elizabeth did marine biology research in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii, working on a project focused on tubeworms and understanding strategies for marine antifouling paint coating. In 2012, she was awarded an EDEN research scholarship from Harvard University to continue her research work in Hawaii. She also did nanomicroscopy research at the University of Toronto.
During her first summer of medicine, she worked on clinical research at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Her project was focused on high-risk melanoma skin cancer patients, and improving prevention, screening, and early detection in the skin cancer hotspot of Queensland, Australia.
Elizabeth also acts as a student mentor for the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and for Medicine Cousins. Her medical interests include rural medicine and improving access to care in rural areas and skin cancer screening and early detection.
